Distinctive Unit Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a cobalt blue ring of smoke encircling a gold disc bearing throughout a red flaming fire with gold base flanked by two cobalt blue heraldic drops and enveloping the sides and base of the ring a tripart gold scroll inscribed "FIRE AND SMOKE" in cobalt blue letters.
Cobalt blue and gold are the colors used for the Chemical Corps. The ancient elements, fire and water, depicted by the flames and heraldic drops connote the basic chemical operations provided by the unit. The smoke ring alludes to the generation of smoke screens and related chemical activities. The fire and smoke also refer to the Battalion's motto.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 7 August 1967.
